Equal Rights

There is nothing as basic to all Americans as equal rights.  Yet in America today, equal rights are still a dream for far too many.  Part of the problem is that some politicians feel they earn re-election points by focusing on issues that divide us. 

 

With so many people hurting because they can’t put food on the table and keep shelter over their heads, I will focus on finding ways to help people live rather than telling them how to live.   It is not the place of the government to endorse ideology.

 

As your Congressman, Jim will fight to:

 

  • Strengthen equal protection and equal rights laws. 
  • Require equal pay for equal work.
  • Protect a woman’s right to choose and support legislation that makes abortion safe, legal and rare.
  • Repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.
  • Repeal the military’s "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.
