Counting Every Delegate

Most of the Senate District conventions have been held with 3 remaining conventions this coming weekend. Many delegates and others would like to know more about the process and how it is unfolding with regard to the 'delegate count.'  Below is detail on the endorsement race, No spin, just the facts!

"How many delegates vote at the CD3 convention April 10?"  158.5

"Are there automatic or 'super' delegates?"  Yes, there are 19 'super delegates' in CD3

"What is are 'named' and 'un-named' delegates?"  'Named' delegates are elected in a subcaucus that was named for a particular congressional candidate.  'Un-named' delegates were elected from a subcaucus that did not have the name of a congressional candidate on the sub-caucus

"How many delegates have been selected so far?"

“Named Delegates” Elected: 45

“Un-named Delegates” Elected: 75.5 (one delegate from SD32 has ½ a vote at the CD3 convention)

"How many delegates have yet to be elected?" 19 (SD33, SD45 and SD44 conventions)

So who is in the lead?

Right now, it’s a wide open race, due to the number of delegates who are still undecided. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Our campaign has received numerous commitments from the “un-named delegates," and based on our internal count, we believe that we are in a great position to be endorsed at the CD3 convention on April 10th.

But, delegates can change their mind at any time. That’s why Jim plans to keep talking to the elected delegates every day until April 10th. None of them deserve to be taken for granted. Jim will keep talking about his plan to be a voice for children and families in Congress and how his message will resonate with voters in November.

Who will decide who our candidate is?

These 159 delegates will decide which candidate faces Erik Paulsen. They deserve to see the candidates debate the issues, talk about their strengths, and address their weaknesses. Then they will be able to make an informed decision and vote to endorse the strongest candidate.

Will Jim Meffert abide by the endorsement?

Absolutely. Jim will abide by the DFL Endorsement, because we need to be united as a party if we’re going to win this seat in November. A primary in this race will only give Erik Paulsen more cover to pretend to be a moderate while voting like Michele Bachmann.
